Assessor App for iPhone and other smart devices

We recently became aware of an iPhone app that mimics the workflow of filling in Green Loans assessments. The name of the app is Home Sustainability Mobile Assessor or HSMA for short and the key benefit is that this application creates an MS Excel file which can be directly uploaded, saving time post assessment.

We were provided with a trial of the software (we used the iPhone version) which seemed useable although we did not trial the software in the field.

The tool was developed by Mobile Technologies who worked in conjunction with ABSA and a group of ABSA accredited Home Sustainability Assessors to develop a mobile tool that can be used by HSA's to complete the Green Loans Home Sustainability Assessments.

The tool that has been developed differs from the current offline and online tools available in that it runs on a Windows Mobile PDA or Phone such as the HTC Touch HD, Samsung Omnia and other Windows Mobile devices or an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. It works completely offline so there is no need for an internet connection when working through the assessment, and it has a number of features that make completing the assessment less repetitive and more streamlined than other tools. Some of the key features of the Home Sustainability Mobile Assessor are:

• Assessments can be performed without internet access
• Allows you to walk around the house and do the assessment electronically without lugging a notebook or a booklet
• You can save Assessment templates for common house configurations
• Reduces time to complete and submit Assessment by up to 50%
• Completed Assessments are compatible with the Green Loans Online Assessor
• The questions are optimised for minimal data entry
• Pre-populates duplicate answers based on previous answers, which reduces unnecessary duplication
• Hides questions that do not need to be answered based on Assessment Summary questions
• Drop downs for easy selection
• Runs on a devices weighing the same as mobile phone
• Runs on a machine with up to 8 hours battery life
